Final Video and Evaluation

Below shows the final video, I placed the video on a CD for submission with a cover to the sleeve. As this is for youtube, the best format to display the video would be placing it on youtube and tagging it. I believe this idea isn't developed enough as of yet to take to youtube. I believe the video  would need refining, making more accurate drawings and create a more accurate representation into what the advertisement section will look like.

SELF EVALUATION

1.  What skills have you developed through this module and how effectively do you think you have applied them?

During this module I have compiled research about new media advertising techniques and the progression from traditional means of advertising. The new media advertising techniques allowed progression to develop a new concept for YouTube and the way the display their advertisements. I developed a solution to a problem that I discovered using feedback and opinions from YouTube users found online. This lead on to develop this new interesting way to display adverts using techniques and resources used in my essay. I am pleased with the outcome of my design and given more time, I would have produced a more accurate and realistic pitch that could be shown to the developers at YouTube to possibly implement this design.  

2. What approaches to/methods of design production have you developed and how have they informed your design development process?

I have developed my work process to work with an order and a plan. As I was working on after effects I needed to plan each frame and make sure the video flowed as well as keeping the viewer interested and excited for the new concept. Working with storyboards and planning my time I was able to effectively produce this video. The storyboards allowed access to frame-by-frame knowledge as to where the video will go and what aspects needed to be produced for the design. Working with opacity and transition between frames makes planning and the production of this storyboard necessary.

3. What strengths can you identify in your work and how have/will you capitalise on these?

I found myself excited and interested when producing my work in After Effects. This is the first brief that I have actually produced some motion graphics for a response so I was glad I managed to. I want to progress on this as I find working interactively and with after effects to create a visual experience will be an aspect of design I want to implement into my style for future briefs. I will work more effectively creating exciting design that works well with print based methods but including various interactive methods using after effects or other animation methods.

4. What weaknesses can you identify in your work and how will you address these in the future?

I believe my essay was the weakest aspect of my design production, struggling to write the essay as I find them difficult to produce. Upon collecting my sources and speaking with Richard I ended up producing a plan and effectively planning my time to produce the essay, in the future I will make sure my essay has good structure with a solid plan into the direction and points the essay will communicate.

5. Identify five things that you will do differently next time and what do you expect to gain from doing these?

1)     Plan my time wisely – separating the practical from the essay and splitting my time up to effectively complete both aspects of the brief.

2)     Experiment more – Experiment further with my concept building and my outcomes to produce interesting and exciting compositions that are different to my usual printed designs. Applying my knowledge of software and exploring with outcomes.

3)     Change my essay genre – Looking into advertisement for 2 essays now, I believe a change and a much more interesting topic will provide new and exciting ideas that promote unique designs.

4)     More Crits – Lacking in feedback for this module I want to take advantage of the studio and make sure I am gaining all the critical feedback I need for progression.

5)     Tutor feedback – I want to use the feedback given from tutors more, Using the feedback from both crits and tutors will make me develop my idea and concept further.
