Studio Brief 01 - Individual Practice

As there was a choice of briefs, and being given the freedom to explore different briefs, making the choice more refined and personal. 5 individual briefs were required for this module, below are the 5 briefs that have been selected.

1) Feathr

I was really interested in producing work for the feathr brief as it allowed experimentation with illustrations, and it give me opportunity to play about with different ideas, and have a bit of fun when producing the work. As there wasn't any requirements to the actual artwork, I could experiment, play around with a few ideas, and actually allowed me to produce a piece of art that was enjoyable to produce, without having to think of a concept or taking the reasons for producing this work too seriously.

2) From Past to Present

I wanted to do "From Past to Present" as it was my first brief working with a customer, and working with the requirements, getting feedback from the client, and making sure the design work I produced was appropriate for the needs. I wanted to understand the types of questions I needed to ask, what I needed to know to successfully start designing for a client, and I wanted to experience the communication side of the brief. Creating design boards to show the client and making sure that they were happy with each process of the design.

3) Secret 7

I was really interested in doing secret 7 again for a few reasons. I believe the concept of the whole exhibition, creating artwork, selling it on, and not actually knowing who created the piece until you have bought the design. It makes people purchase artwork because they actually like the design, instead of looking at the artist name and picking that purely because they have seen the artists name before.  Another reason I wanted to apply for secret 7 was to make sure I actually get in the exhibition this time, last year I was unsuccessful and my aim is to win this year.

4) Monotype

Monotype seemed interesting as it allowed the exploration into film posters, film design, and creating a typeface that related to a director. The freedom to pick a personal film, then to experiment, explore, and create concepts for a new typeface that will relate to the films and the director. This exploration excites me as the design has no limitations and can be created from nothing.

5) ???
